"An Evening with the Moonlighters" to benefit food bank

The Dothan Moolighters, providing the sights and sounds of the big band and swing era for more than 20 years, are performing to benefit the Wiregrass Area United Way Food Bank this Friday, May 18th.

Relax and enjoy the music with coffee, dessert, and dancing from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m.  There will be plenty of table seating provided, along with an opportunity to bid on items in a silent auction. 

A limited nubmer of tickets aer available for a donation of $10 per person or $15 per couple.  Groups may purchase tickets at the discounted rate.

The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is set for tomorrow

Tomorrow, Saturday, May 12, the United States Postal Service will team up with its letter carriers to conduct the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive across the nation to collect food donations in order to provide assistance to the millions of Americans who are struggling with hunger each and every day.

The nation’s 210,000 letter carriers will collect food donations left at the mailboxes of generous Americans in more than 10,000 communities and deliver them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive is the nation’s largest single-day food drive, having collected more than one billion pounds of food since its inception in 1993. In 2011, generous Americans donated 70.2 million pounds of food, which marked the eighth consecutive year that at least 70 million pounds were collected.

Helping Stamp Out Hunger is as easy as checking your mailbox.

The U.S. Army Installation Management Command presents the 2012 U.S. Army Soldier Show!

Come enjoy a family-friendly, high-energy, 90-minute live musical production by active duty Soldiers.  The show features performances of today's hits, yesterday's classics and even original material.

The show will be performed at the Ozark Civic Center on Saturday, May 5th at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 6th at 2:30 p.m.  Admission is free.  Doors open one hour prior to showtime.

Dothan Police Department set to host "Bark in the Park"

Dothan Police Department set to host "Bark in the Park"

The Dothan Police Department Animal Services Division will be hosting an event on May 19, 2012 at Eastgate Park. We invite you to attend “Bark in the Park”, which will benefit the Dothan Animal Shelter with all proceeds going directly to purchase much needed medications.

Bark in the Park will be a fun-filled day for the entire family with special activities for pets and their owners. Events include: live bands, a 5K run, a pet walk, car show, stump chunkin’, a low-cost rabies clinic, pet fashion show, vendors, food and drinks. The Dothan Police K-9’s will present exhibits throughout the day and we will have on-site dogs and cats for adoption.

Cash-only admission fees will be collected at the gate as follows: $5 per adult and $2.50 for kids under 13 or over 59 and pets are free admission.

Family Fun Day is coming up!

The Dothan Police Department’s Community Watch Program is sponsoring a Family Fun Day for the residents of District 2 at Gussie McMillon Park on April 28, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. There will be food, games for the kids, music to include live entertainment, police demonstrations with a K-9 demo and Helicopter landing, and numerous vendors from within the local business community. 

The purpose of this event is for the residents of District 2 to take a stand and fight back against crime in their neighborhoods.  The residents are partnering with the Community Watch Program to become trained in crime prevention.   

Gussie McMillon Park is located at the corner of Shirley Street and Pryor Street, where the old East Highland School was once located.
