Dothan PD to hold Law Enforcement Memorial Service

 

On Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. the Dothan Police Department will host a Law Enforcement Memorial Service in the City of Dothan Municipal Courtroom at the Dothan Police Department.  The public is invited and encouraged to make plans to attend.  This service is held annually during National Police Week in honor of our fallen heroes.

Benefit for Angie Lee - For a Share Event

Stop by the Red Elephant in Dothan - dine in or carry out - and tell your server you are here to support the Benefit for Angie Lee.

15% of revenues will be donated by Red Elephant.

Angie Lee was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in January. The benefit will help her fund the cost of her cancer treatments.

Bark in the Park is coming up this weekend!

It’s almost here! This Saturday marks the second anniversary of the Dothan Police Department’s Bark in the Park, a fundraising event at Eastgate Park in Dothan.

This is a family-oriented, dog-friendly event to raise money for the purchase of medications for the adoptable pets housed at the Dothan Animal Shelter.

The event will kick off with a 5K run that includes your dogs at 9:00 (registration begins at 7:30am).  Main gates open at 10:00am and will include live music by Southern Chain Gang, a car & motorcycle show, food and craft vendors, a Dog Fashion Show at 1:00pm, a wild west shoot-out at 2:00pm, a dunking booth, K-9 demonstrations and a lot more. Entrance fee is $5.00 per person or $20.00 per carload.

All pets are admitted free.

Troy University to celebrate Heritage Week at Dothan Campus

Troy University will celebrate its ties to the Wiregrass region with a number of special events during the annual Heritage Week celebration on the Dothan Campus April 15-19.

For more than 20 years the Dothan Campus has celebrated its history in the Wiregrass with the Heritage Week festivities, which include several free events that are open to the public.

Activities during the 2013 Heritage Week will include:

Monday, April 15
The Troy University Community Band of Dothan will perform at 6 p.m. inside Sony Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Tuesday, April 16
The annual Health and Wellness Fair, featuring free information and screenings from local healthcare providers, will be from 9 a.m. to noon inside the Harrison Room in Malone Hall. Free and open to the public.
The Continuing Education Center will preview upcoming courses during an Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Troy to host 'Letter from Birmingham Jail' readings in Montgomery, Dothan on Apri 16

Troy University will take part in the worldwide celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” on Tuesday, April 16, by hosting readings of the letter in Montgomery and Dothan.
 
Organized by the Birmingham Public Library, the worldwide celebration marks the 50th anniversary of the day King began writing his famous open letter. Public readings of the letter are scheduled around the world at schools, museums, churches and other locations.
 
Troy University will join the celebration with readings inside the Rosa Parks Museum auditorium on the Montgomery Campus and on the steps of the Library/Technology Building at the Dothan Campus.

Hardee’s Ride for Hope, Saturday, May 18, 2013

Saturday, May 18, Wiregrass Hope Group will host the 4th Annual Hardee’s Ride for Hope.  Sponsored by Hardee’s, the ride proceeds will go toward the services provided through Wiregrass Hope Group.

Registration will be from 9 to 10 at all 3 start/registration locations:

Hardee’s by Home Depot in Dothan;

Hardee’s in Abbeville, or

Hardee’s in Enterprise. 

The registration fee of $20 gives each rider a t-shirt, rider card and Hardee’s combo coupons for breakfast and lunch.  Free drink refills will be provided at each restaurant.

During the ride, bikers visit the 8 area Hardee’s (3 in Dothan, one in Headland, Abbeville, Ozark, Enterprise and Hartford.) to have their ride card stamped.  Cards must be completed and turned in by 3 pm for a chance to win the prizes.

Law Enforcement officials to kick off Special Olympic Events with 5k Torch Run

Tomorrow law enforcement will be kicking off the Special Olympics (held at Dothan High) with the 5k Torch Run. Runners will be meeting at “Miracle Field” (Westgate Park) at 7:45 and beginning the run at 8:45. If you would like to get sound-bites and/or video come out at 8 am. Also, attached to the email will be a map showing the runners route for anyone wanting to get video footage. It will go from Miracle field to Choctaw Street. Choctaw Street to Ross Clark Circle. Ross Clark Circle to W. Main Street. W. Main Street. to S. Oates Street. And S. Oates Street to Dothan High School.
