Dothan police resolve hostage situation at area motel | Crime
DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Dothan Police Department responded to an early morning report of an assault in progress at the Motel 6 at 2907 Ross Clark Circle Thursday.
When officers arrived on scene at 5:30am, they learned the assault was domestically motivated and involved a male suspect and a female victim with whom the suspect had a previous relationship.
Witnesses told investigators that both the suspect and victim were inside of a motel room and that the victim was likely being held against her will.
The Crisis Negotiation and Special Response Teams were activated to respond and assist. Crisis negotiators began talking with the suspect around 6:30am and continued communications through multiple conversations until 8:45am. It was at that time when the suspect released the victim and surrendered.
The victim was not injured, according to investigators, and the suspect was successfully detained by the Special Response Team.
The Criminal Investigative Unit has now taken over the case and says charges are pending. The suspect was later identified as 33-year-old Slocumb resident James Tyler. Tyler is charged with first degree kidnapping and is being held under a $250,000 bond.
