Each year the Alabama Department of Mental Health joins statewide and national organizations to promote National Mental Health Month, observed in May. Throughout the month, various advocacy organizations will host events statewide, and ADMH will present its 8th annual Capitol Showcase Consumer Art Exhibition.

Art Exhibition Details
More than 100 consumers around the state with mental illnesses, developmental disabilities, substance use disorders or co-occurring disorders will showcase their artwork throughout the month at the Capitol. The exhibition promotes consumer dignity and helps the public gain a better understanding of the individuals ADMH serves. This exhibition is about more than just the artists’ work.

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA)- It is
down to the final four candidates in the running for the 2013-2014 Alabama
Teacher of the Year. 

State
Superintendent of Education Dr. Tommy Bice said the final four candidates for
the Alabama Teacher of the Year have been chosen from an extensive field of
educational leaders throughout the state who have given more than just their
time and attention.

"The
final four are educators who have given all their energy and expertise to help
to prepare students for the world," Bice said.

The
next step for the final four is an extensive interview with the state judging
committee. The Teacher of the Year winner will be revealed at a ceremony hosted
by the Alabama State Department of Education on Wednesday, May 8, at 6:30 p.m.
at the RSA Plaza Terrace.

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA)- A local company with a tie to Boston is making t-shirts to show "We Stand With Boston" in the wake of the Boston Marathon explosions.

ScreenTech on Kelley Drive in Dothan is producing t-shirts that say "We Stand With Boston." The shirts cost $10 dollars plus tax
for sizes youth small through adult xlarge and $12 dollars plus tax for adult
sizes 2x and 3x with part of the proceeds from each shirt going to benefit the Salvation Army's
Boston Area Operations.

One of the founders of ScreenTech, Terry Collins, played baseball professionally for the Boston Red Sox and had a great affinity and love for Boston.

ScreenTech says they're doing this to show support for the historic American city and their patriotism for our country.

The shirts will be available starting in the afternoon on Thursday, April 18.
