Area chef competes on Iron Chef television show - Lake Martin Magazine

Springhouse Restaurant Executive Chef Rob McDaniel has had since July 2011 to get used to the idea of being on national television. And now, he’s finally ready for all the questions about his Iron Chef experience to be answered.

“I’ve gotten used to people asking me questions and me not being able to answer,” McDaniel said. “A lot of people know we went and competed, but that’s all we’ve been able to say.”

McDaniel was chosen to serve as sous chef for Chris Hastings, executive chef at Hot and Hot Fish Club in Birmingham, for an episode of the show Iron Chef America filmed in New York City last July.

Chick-fil-A tea sales to help Red Cross

Chick-fil-A tea sales to help Red Cross

A popular chicken sandwich restaurant has come up with a sweet deal for helping the American Red Cross. Chick-fil-A® restaurants across southeast Alabama will donate $1 for every gallon of sweet or unsweet tea sold in August to local American Red Cross chapters.

Five Chick-fil-A restaurants in Montgomery and eight additional locations from Prattville to Dothan will participate in the organization’s disaster relief drive.

All funds raised from the tea sales will support the Red Cross’s efforts in southeast Alabama related to recent natural disasters.

The funds will also support future relief efforts related to wildfires, tornadoes, droughts and hurricanes.

“Our friends and neighbors in this area have experienced some tragic events in the last few months,” said Chick-fil-A at Colonial Promenade Marketing Director Knox Bannister.
