Troy's Jernigan Ready to Take Playmaking Ability to NFL

When a football touches Jerrel Jernigan’s hands, there is a buzz in the stadium in anticipation of what’s coming next.

During his career at Troy, Jernigan displayed an arsenal of spin moves, explosive bursts and cuts that juked defenders out of their cleats and kept scoreboard operators on constant alert.

Whether he’s trying to catch a ball, break a tackle, or return a kickoff or punt, Jernigan has the ability to play at a furious pace that leaves his opponents bewildered and everyone else in awe.

Staying a step ahead of the competition is nothing new to the all-time leading receiver in Trojan history.

In fact, his beginnings as a football player came earlier than even his parents expected.

National Signing Day is Like Christmas for College Football Fans

For most people, tomorrow is simply "Groundhog Day." For college football coaches and fans, tomorrow is their version of Christmas.

Schools all across the country are patiently waiting to unwrap their presents tomorrow as the next batch of prep stars will let their college destinations be known on National Signing Day.

If you ask any college coach, they will tell you that recruiting is the key lifeline to building a big-time program.  For proof of that, look no further than the last two national champions, in-state powers Alabama and Auburn.

In 2008, Alabama signed the top rated class in the country, which was Nick Saban's first full cycle as the head coach of the Crimson Tide.  Players such as Julio Jones, Marcell Dareus, and Mark Ingram formed a base that would help the Tide capture the 2009 national title.

BC Star Herzlich Thankful to be Playing in Senior Bowl

Mark Herzlich was supposed to already be in the NFL.  After a stellar 2008 season in which he was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year, the Boston College linebacker was pegged by most draft experts to be a first-round lock whenever he chose to enter the draft.

All of that changed in the spring of 2009.  As he was getting ready for his senior season, Herzlich was blindsided with news that put his future and his life in serious jeopardy.  He was diagnosed with cancer, specifically a bone tumor known as Ewing’s sarcoma.

Doctors advised him that playing football again would not likely be possible.

After a grueling rehab period that included seven months of chemotherapy and five weeks of radiation, Herzlich emerged from it all, mostly due to the drive to get back onto the gridiron and back to playing the game he loves.

Bills' coach Gailey Reminisces on his days at Troy

Bills' coach Gailey Reminisces on his days at Troy

Buffalo Bills head coach Chan Gailey has a special place in his heart for the state of Alabama.  After all, his first big break in the coaching profession came in the southeastern part of the state.

Gailey’s first head coaching job came when he spent two seasons at Troy State University.  Gailey helped the school capture its first NCAA Division II national championship in 1984.

The former Dallas Cowboys coach is back in Alabama to coach the South squad against the North team in Saturday’s Under Armour Senior Bowl in Mobile.

“My memories of Troy are just amazing,” Gailey said.  “We had such a great group of young men.  We were there twice.  My very first job was at Troy as a defensive backfield coach and then I came back as a head coach 1983-1984 and we were able to win a championship.”

Gailey reminisced about his days in Troy, and in his mind, that time period ranks highly among his favorite memories in his coa

FSU OL Hudson leads by example

Florida State offensive lineman Rodney Hudson may be soft-spoken away from the field, but his play during his collegiate career formed a resume that may as well blare louder than a jet engine to NFL scouts.

Hudson is the only player in ACC history to make the first team all-conference team 3 years in a row and was second team his freshman season.  He was also a first-team consensus All-American over his last two seasons in Tallahassee and was named a finalist for the 2010 Outland Trophy.

Now back in his hometown to play one final game before he begins his pro career, Hudson is anxious to show scouts he can match up with the best talent across the nation.

“Its very exciting because I haven’t played here since high school,” Hudson said.
