AUM Women's soccer to host winter camp in February

The Auburn University at Montgomery women's soccer program and the Jamey Newsome Soccer Academy will host a two-day Winter Camp on February 16-17, 2013, at the AUM Soccer Complex.

The event is open to girls ages 15 and older and features a specifically designed curriculum that will feature only the best and most effective techniques available. All instruction will be conducted by college coaches who will put you through the paces of a typical college preseason routine. Campers will play with and against current and former AUM Soccer players, who are there to show you what the next level is all about, while giving you the chance to become more familiar with the elite college level. All coaches will be available after each session to answer any questions you may have on a "one-on-one" basis.

The Academy setting will challenge the field players in attacking skills, speed of play, and quick decision making through small-sided, 11 vs. 11 matches.

Huntingdon men lose at Rust College

The Huntingdon men’s basketball team turned in its best scoring performance of the season, but fell to Rust College 88-86 on Saturday.

The Hawks (5-12) took the lead late in the first half and held it until the final seven minutes of the game.  Huntingdon fell behind by six points in the final minutes, but almost rallied for the win.

A Jeremiah Thomas basket made it an 88-85 game before Austin Hill sank a free throw to make it 88-86. Hill intentionally missed the second free throw to try and set up a Huntingdon putback, but the Hawks couldn’t get the final shot to fall at the buzzer.

“We didn’t get the win, but I think that is the best we have played all year,” Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. “We led for much of the game and we had our chances to win.

“We made the same mistakes that have been hurting us all season,” Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh. “You can’t turn the ball over that many times and you can’t miss that many free throws in a close game.

Jeremiah Thomas turned in a career-high scoring performance to help the Huntingdon men’s basketball team down William Peace 82-68 on Wednesday.

Thomas finished with 28 points and nine rebounds to earn All-Tournament honors in the Morris Cregger Invitational at Roanoke College. Thomas was 8-for-11 from the field and 12-for-16 from the free-throw line.
The win capped a stretch of four games in five days for Huntingdon (4-9).

“We played hard and picked up a good win,” Huntingdon head coach Mike Pugh said. “This has been a tough trip. We’ve played four good teams in five days and battled injuries and illness, but I’m proud of the way our guys responded. A lot was asked of our guys, but we kept battling.

“Jeremiah played a big game today. He’s been sick the past few days but he’s played through it. Ryan Petty had a good game today and made some key plays for us and Austin Hill played really well.
