Dothan woman 'played' over game

Dothan woman 'played' over game

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - A Dothan woman looking for a game got played when a thief took her money and ran.

According to the Dothan Police Department, officers were called to a theft complaint in the Dothan Mall parking lot. When they arrived they found a woman who admitted she'd agreed to play a game, but this wasn't how it was supposed to turn out.

The woman explained to officers that she agreed to play a "cup game" with a man who she did not know - she would put money under one of a series of cups, he would shift the cups around, and if she picked the right cup, she would win $100. When she pulled out a hand full of cash to play the game, the man grabbed the money and ran.

Dothan Police say there was no force or weapon used during this incident, and no injuries were sustained. They will continue to investigate any leads that come in on this incident.

The Dothan Police Department has closed an investigation of an alleged crime which recently caused alarm to many members of our community. On February 10, 2012, the Dothan Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person after dispatch received a call from a concerned citizen that an unfamiliar man was in her yard located in the Grove Park subdivision. Police responded and learned from the resident that she was frightened when she looked out of her window and saw a man at her front door. She described the man as an older white male with a bicycle wearing a ski jacket. Patrolmen responded to the area and later detained a man who bore a resemblance to the description police were given. Officers followed standard procedure by attaching the identifying information to the incident for future consideration then released him after determining he may have understandably raised suspicions and may have also caused alarm, but had not committed a crime.

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - The Dothan Police Department says they've been working undercover to help find a flasher who has been targeting female runners at the Westgate Park Running Trail.

In response to a large number of incidents reporting indecent exposure, members of the investigative division have been conducting surveillance missions in the park. Three female officers have been undercover, posing as runners on the trail. The officers have logged more than 100 miles on the trail in an effort to catch the suspects involved, and that effort paid off Monday morning.

Early Monday morning undercover officers had a confrontation with the suspect in the Kiwanis parking lot and followed the suspect until other members were able to make a traffic stop and take the suspect into custody.

Man high on aerosol electrical cleaner crashes car into cemetery, church

DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - A cemetery, subdivision and church sustained heavy damage from dusting of a different type after a Dothan man got high off of an aerosol electrical cleaner and lost control of his car.

"Dusting" or huffing the aerosol electronic cleaner "Dust Off" is a new method people are using to get high. Dothan Police say 20-year old Garrett Allan Maddox lost consciousness behind the wheel of his vehicle after "dusting."

Maddox's vehicle left Honeysuckle Road in Dothan careening through the Selma Cemetery damaging several headstones before it crossed South Park Avenue where it ran through the fence enclosing the Stonecreek Landing Subdivision. The vehicle continued on a destructive path running over another fence, crossing Moore Road and slamming into the west side of Selma Baptist Church.

Police say the damage caused was "substantial."
