DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - Three men are behind bars facing serious charges in Dothan as well as at least two counties in Florida after what started with a stolen car ended with a teenage girl dead.
According to the Dothan Police Department, authorities responded to the 400 block of West Powell Street shortly after 12:30 Friday morning in reference to a robbery. The victim told police he was in his vehicle when he was approached by three males wearing dark clothing and armed with handguns. The suspects ordered the victim out of his vehicle, they then stole the vehicle and left the area driving off in an unknown direction.
Florida police located the stolen vehicle in Bay County along with a second stolen vehicle from the Panama City Beach area. A chase ensued.
The original suspect vehicle crashed on Highway 79 near Wausau, Florida killing a 16-year-old Dothan female and injuring one of the male suspects.
The two other suspects who were in the vehicle stolen from PCB, Florida continued to flee from police but were later captured.
Dothan Investigators linked the suspects captured in Florida as the same men wanted in connection with the Powell Street robbery.
Jalen Juwon Andrews, 17 of Dothan is being charged as an adult with Robbery First Degree. Dzesmion Elijah Teague, 22 of Dothan is being charged with Robbery First Degree. James Akeem Boatwright, 19 of Dothan is being charged with Robbery First Degree. All three suspects face additional charges relating to vehicle theft and the death of the teen in Florida and are expected to return to Houston County at a later time.
This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible for each suspect.
